My phone rang and I didn’t answer it. I was hanging out with my mom, watching a movie, and I figured everyone else could wait.
Moments later my cell phone rang.
Someone must want to get hold of me pretty badly. There is a very short list of people who will call both phones in rapid succession and, in that moment, being with my mom was more important.
I grabbed my cell phone to silence the ringer and saw a name I didn’t expect – a very good friend who wouldn’t idly ring both phones unless she really wanted to talk to me.
When I answered, the first thing she said was, “I just left a really garbled message on your home voice mail. Please ignore it.”
How amazing is it to have friends who we can say that to? We go through so much of our days trying to be proper. To do the right things and say the right things and impress the right people. To be able to let it all go and lower our guards enough, knowing that even in our least gracious moments they’ll love us anyway – what a gift. It’s one of those little miracles that I take for granted too often. Not today.
Thanks Sue. You made my day. 🙂
