Published!

For a couple of years I’ve been trying to come up with a legitimate pitch to send to my university’s alumni magazine.  For some reason it has always felt particularly appealing to be published in the magazine that represents the place where I came of age, both personally and professionally.

I’ve sent a couple of pitches to them in the past to no avail. I can understand why none of them went – they weren’t appropriate to the forum.

Here’s the interesting thing – sometimes when I let things go, they come back in ways that I didn’t expect.  It’s a phenomenon I’ve seen before and talked about in the post “God Working In Mysterious Ways”.

In mid-April, the Brandeis Magazine CONTACTED ME and asked me to write for them. The editor had seen a copy of my book and asked me to write a column for a new feature she has recently implemented calling Turning Points. It is meant to chronicle a moment – large or small – that marks a turning point in the writer’s life.

Today I got word that the essay I wrote, The Fat Side of the Equation, has been published and copies are in the mail to the entire Brandeis alumni community.  I am thrilled beyond words.  I am preceded in this honor by two absolutely phenomenal essays – one by Guy Raz (my comrade in the class of 1996 and weekend host of NPR’s signature show All Things Considered) and one by Penelope Trunk (blogger and syndicated columnist).  To join those ranks feels like a true accomplishment.

Please join me over at the Brandeis Magazine website to celebrate the publication of my Turning Points column.

Today I remember that I am a writer.

I am a published writer!!!!!
