The grand gesture

Today Mr. Blue Eyes finally made it home.  After almost two months on the road, he’ll sleep in his own bed again tonight.

I tell you this because I feel oddly better now that he’s home.  I still miss him like CRAZY, but I feel a little more stable knowing that he’s in one place and not moving around every day, sleeping goodness knows where each night.

And I also tell you this because I had a revelation last night while I was on the phone with him.  Well, to call it a revelation might be a bit strong since I’ve known it all along.  But the truth is that even though I said the words, I didn’t really feel them.  Last night I got it.

This man must REALLY love me.  He rode a motorcycle across the country and back to spend a month with me.

I’ve always been someone who traded in grand gestures – I like to make them and I like to receive them.  But that – riding a MOTORCYCLE across the country when it was approaching winter – that transcends any grand gesture I could have ever conceived of.

Thank you baby.  Sorry it took me so long to figure it out.  Thanks for sticking with me until I got there.
