Taking a leap on faith

Tonight’s guest post comes from Mohanalakshmi Rajakumar. Here’s her story:

My miracle is that after quitting a job in June, I had another one waiting for me not a week later. The new job was part-time, seasonal, and didn’t pay as much as the other one (about 1/8 of what I was making) but I had made a decision to let go of the negative environment I had been surrounded in, and strike out on my own. My confidence and pledge to myself were rewarded. The new part-time job led to something more permanent and this led to work at a prestigious university. All of these events culminated in a very strong application, almost a year after I first decided to leave, for a full-time, open-ended position for which I had gone to graduate school.

None of this would have happened if I hadn’t taken the leap of faith to leave a place that was not only taking advantage of me, but also treating others around me very poorly. I’m so glad I said money wasn’t worth my happiness. Because although now I’m still making less than I was, I am in a more respected position and also overall more content. Sometimes you do have to leap out in faith and hope the everlasting arms catch you. If you don’t, how will you know that they will?

I’m struck by the similarities to my own experience over the last year: offering to volunteer a few hours a week at the newspaper, and now having a full-time job and making most of my income from writing.  Iyanla Vanzant says that when the Universe shines its blessing on something, almost nothing can mess it up. When the Universe removes its blessing, there’s almost nothing that can make it go right.  In Mohana’s case, I’d say the Universe is smiling on her! 🙂
