The sign of a good place to be

I spent about six hours in the newsroom today – the first time I’ve ever gone in on a day off.  I went because I was deep in the midst of a big project and there’s software on my computer there that made it much simpler.  Plus, my colleague Andrew is a whiz at just about… well… everything, so I knew if I needed technical help he could provide it.  And did he ever!!!

It got me thinking about how much I enjoy the newsroom.  I really like the people I work with.  The room is filled with activity, noise, and interesting conversations.  There’s a sense of camaraderie that I’ve been missing ever since leaving theater.  People frequently bring in chocolate, donuts, and cookies (oops, was that out loud? 🙂 )

But the thing that I like best about the newsroom is me.  I like who I am when I’m in the newsroom.

I like that I feel smart and capable there.

I like that I feel witty with my co-workers.

I like that I feel good at my job.

I like that most days I walk in smiling and I walk out smiling (tired, but smiling.)

I like the person that I show up as in that room.

And as I’ve chronicled in numerous recent posts (How am I like a K-Cup, The Leah Carey I know isn’t rude, Showing up as me, and more) it comes back to me as appreciation and recognition of who I am, both as a person and an employee.

I’m a lucky girl, indeed.

Andrew - stylish as ever in his get up for Mardi Gras 2012
