The amazingness of Regina Carter

This weekend I had the great good fortune of seeing Regina Carter in performance.  She is a phenomenal jazz violinist and she very clearly LOVES what she is doing.

I’ve admired Ms. Carter’s work for a few years, so having the opportunity to hear her play in an intimate venue 10 minutes from my home was A.MA.ZING.

She’s surrounded by an ensemble of four men who are outstanding musicians, each in their own right – a drummer, a bassist, an accordion player, and a Kora player (don’t know what a kora is?  Neither did I.  Here’s an explanation and picture.)

After a tough week, letting the music wash over me for a couple of hours was exactly what I needed.  And I’d love to share it with you.  Here is a video of Regina Carter playing one of the songs we heard on Saturday night, playing with the same four gentlemen we saw on stage.  Enjoy!
