The guardian of the Golden Gate Bridge

I have just seen an angel on earth – a miracle given to all of us to help us see our own humanity.  His name is Kevin Briggs and he’s known as the “Guardian of the Golden Gate Bridge.”  Over the past 20 years, he has talked hundreds of people down from the edge.

I am so touched by this video that I had to share it with you:

(If you can’t see the video above, click here to watch it on Yahoo.)

There are over 4000 comments, and in the dozen or so that I read, there were three from people saying some version of “I’m one of the people you helped.  Thank you for saving my life.”

My new friend Jen and I have talked a lot about the difference that a single word or smile can make.  She lost a beloved family member to suicide and she often says that if one person had smiled at him that day or asked him how things were going, perhaps things would have turned out differently. Part of her message is that you never know who you’re helping when you reach out your hand and offer a simple kindness.

I may never have to talk someone down from the Golden Gate Bridge, but Officer Briggs has re-inspired me to make sure that the words I speak and the actions I take are kind, loving, and making a positive impact in the world.

Today’s miracle: Being in the right place at the right time can save a life…and so can a smile.

In other news…  Many, many thanks to all of you who took the survey I put out last week.  One thing I learned is that neither of the logo options particularly resonated with you, the readers.

So I’ve decided to try my hand at doing my own redesign! Last night my MasterMind group encouraged me to start playing around and see what happens.  I’ll play with color, shape, composition, and anything else I can think of.  My goal is to not reject or edit anything right off the bat, but to let them breathe and lead me to whatever comes next.

Rather than doing it in a vacuum, I thought I’d share a few of them.  Ultimately I want to find something that represents me and also speaks to you…so why not let you be part of the conversation from the beginning?!

Here’s one that I worked on today:

Hi Leah, I love the moon logo. I was also inspired by your article. I have noticed how media driven we are and not connecting with others. I am shutting off my computer when my daughter gets home!

Thanks Jeanette! I love the idea of shutting your computer off to spend time with your daughter. 🙂
