Hello Miracle Watchers!
I didn’t mean to be away for a whole week, but with the holiday craziness and then getting a nasty stomach bug…well, more days passed than I had expected. But I’m back!
Truthfully, I’m only about half back. I’ve been in bed for two days trying to keep any kind of food or drink down. I’m starting to get a bit better – I just enjoyed a little bit of chicken broth and apple juice and I have high hopes for its staying power.
The chicken broth has got me thinking. I spoke with my mom several times yesterday (she’s very good about checking in with me when I’m sick.) Every time she asked me if there was anything she could do for me. At the time, there wasn’t.
This morning I realized that I really wanted some chicken broth, but still felt too weak to leave my apartment. When Mom called, she asked once again if there was anything she could do. I told her there were a couple of groceries that I’d be very grateful for. I didn’t like asking her to go out of her way, but she had offered so I decided to take her up on it.
The funny thing is that she seemed grateful for being able to help. In fact, she even went on a search for one hard-to-find item. I told her that it didn’t matter, but despite my protests, she insisted on looking at several stores.
And then I realized – I’m the same way when she’s sick or needs something. I want to do anything I can to help her feel better. I’ll go miles out of my way to do something nice for her, just because I know it will make her smile.
I like being good my mom. And she likes being good to me. Isn’t that a wonderful definition of true love?
To be more global about it – most of us enjoy the feeling of being useful to others. It fulfills our very human desire to be of service. It’s all the more special when it’s for someone we care about deeply. (Click to tweet)
Thanks Mom. The chicken broth rocks. But not even a fraction of how much you rock. I love you. 🙂
Today’s miracle: Knowing how much I’m loved makes me feel all warm and gooey inside…even when the rest of my insides aren’t feeling quite so hot!

One other note – the interview I did a while back for the John Tesh Radio Network/Intelligence For Your Life is playing again today. They chose my segment as one of their favorites of 2012!! You can hear the archived audio on my Radio appearances page.
