The birthday ball

I recently received this charming miracle from Lynette in California.  I promptly responded to ask if she could send a picture of the titular ball.  She and her husband made a special trip to the bowling alley to get some terrific shots to go with this miracle!

On the Saturday morning of my birthday, Sept. 27, 2008, I left the house at 8:30 to drive to a 10:00 meeting in Encinitas, Calif. Four blocks from my home, I turned a corner and saw a garage sale, and a little voice in my head said, “Stop here.” So I parked, got out, walked up to the woman standing in front of the garage and said, “Good morning.” Then I looked down. Lo and behold, there was a purple bowling ball.

Mind you, purple’s my favorite color. Of course, I already had a purple bowling ball—one I’d bought used about 15 years previous, with the previous owner’s name, “BERTHA,” incised on it—but somehow over the past dozen years or so the finger holes had shrunk, and I hadn’t been able to use it since.

So I checked this lady’s bowling ball and saw that, sure enough, it had three holes—just the right number! And when I stuck my fingers in the holes, they fit perfectly! So then I picked up the ball, and it was 12 lbs., just the weight I like! And while I was rejoicing over that fact, I noticed the personalized initials just above where my two fingers were inserted: “L.S.”—my initials! So then I asked, “How much for the bowling ball?”

She said, “Fifty cents.” I decided not to dicker.

Thank you, God, for the birthday gift—with only a small handling charge!

Today’s miracle: Sometimes when we’re least expecting it, the Universe drops the perfect gift at our doorstep!

I’ve been resting a lot this week, still building my strength and energy after the flu.  That’s why I haven’t posted for the last few days.  Last night, instead of posting here, I put up a link on Facebook that I think is an absolute MUST read: How giving myself a “scar” helped my daughter’s self-image.  Things like this article and lots of inspirational images and thoughts only happen on my Facebook page, so please join me there and become a fan!
