Hi everyone! We’re back from the planned motorcycle ride and I have a confession to make – I wasn’t a natural. I did okay with learning how to move my body in the turns and be a decent passenger, but I didn’t really relax into the experience well. We spent two days on the road …

The labyrinth
The most beautiful labyrinth I’ve ever seen is in Hardwick, Vermont, on the grounds of Hardwick Chiropractic.
The first time I visited this labyrinth was about 10 years ago with my mother and Evie Spodnik. The three of us spent a wonderful afternoon there that lives very clearly in my memory.
Evie had a particular …

Living as if it matters
Last night I had my first normal night of sleep since Evie died three weeks ago.
I have to admit that when I woke up this morning and realized that had happened, a wave of guilt crashed over me – how can I be returning to normal after such an awful thing happened to her? …

Seeing the Evidence
Since I started working at the Caledonian Record I’ve been clipping out all of the pieces that ran with my byline. I’ve always liked to have a record of my work and I figured that I wasn’t writing that much, so it wouldn’t pile up too quickly.
Nice concept, but not the truth. For the …

Declaration of Independence
This morning I went to one of my favorite spots in the world – it’s a nearby hiking trail that comes out at a swimming hole. It’s a place we frequented when I was a kid and it’s where my father’s ashes are scattered.
This morning I went up and sat for a long time …

Celebrating Evie and teaching
Last night was an amazing night. There was a remembrance for Evie Spodnik by her Sacred Circle Dance community. Over the course of the evening I think there were probably at least 50 people there. Evie was extremely passionate and dedicated to circle dance, traveling frequently to dance circles all over New England and Canada …

Living Today For Evie – a repost
Earlier today a friend sent me this post that was written by Angie Miller, one of Evie Spodnik’s colleagues. It captures her spirit so perfectly that I feel compelled to quote her here. You can find the original post at: http://nhtoy2011.blogspot.com/2011/07/living-today-for-evie.html
There was a gathering tonight of Evie’s Sacred Circle Dance community and people traveled …

Losing a friend, gaining an angel
I am terribly sad to report that the friend I have mentioned in my last two posts passed away last night. Evie Spodnik played several roles in my life, including childhood teacher and adult friend. She followed her passions with a drive and enthusiasm that moved mountains.
When I was in fourth grade, I was …
