When you can’t breathe, sing

Have you ever heard stories about people who have some type of brain injury and can no longer speak, but they can sing?  Or people who stutter terribly until they start reciting poetry?

Finding the core

Recently I found this in a bag of baby carrots:

As I’ve mentioned a few times in the last month or so, I’m going through a period of deep introspection, processing and healing.

When I saw this carrot, it seemed like the perfect embodiment of what I’ve been doing: going straight the core and …

Stronger than before

Before getting on to tonight’s guest post, I want to acknowledge the miracle of safety.

After Tropical Storm Irene last year, New Hampshire and Vermont were  on edge waiting to see what would happen with Sandy.  We have been incredibly lucky this week that she struck only a glancing blow to northern NH and Vt.

The Godfather’s Daughter

Sometimes healing finds you in the most unexpected places. For me, it was in the pages of a book about a mobster’s daughter.

I was excited to start reading it as soon as it arrived. I read the first three pages of the introduction…

And I had a total and complete meltdown.

I was completely …

Emotional hangover

Sometimes I write something that I have to go back and read over and over and over again – still trying to process it and integrate it.

Today is one of those days.  I’ve gone back to re-read what I wrote last night at least five times.  Each time I integrate it a little more.  …

Desperately Seeking Dysfunction

My dad has been on my mind and in my conversation a lot over the last several weeks.  That is usually a signal that another “divine opportunity for healing” is right around the corner. Oh joy.

My growing up years were dominated by my father’s alcoholism.  He was very high-functioning in the world and many …
